European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education

European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) was founded on 4 March 2008 by the E4 organisations (ENQA, EUA, ESU, EURASHE).

EQAR’s mission is to further the development of the European Higher Education Area by increasing transparency of quality assurance, and thus enhancing trust and confidence in European higher education.

EQAR

  • promotes student mobility due to the increase of trust among higher education institutions;
  • reduces opportunities for “accreditation mills” to gain credibility;
  • enables higher education institutions to choose between different agencies from the Register to conduct external evaluations;
  • gives clear and trustworthy information on quality assurance mechanisms and organisations in different European countries.

To be admitted to the Register, agencies need to undergo an external review by independent experts, where the agency’s and its procedures’ compliance with the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assuranceis assessed.

Nine quality assurance agencies have already been listed on the Register as of 5 April 2009.

EKKA is planning to undergo an external review during the next few years in order to be admitted to the Register.
