To carry out accreditation, international expert committees are formed, who visit higher education institutions and submit expert reports on study programmes.
The experts give one of the three possible assessments to the study programme:
1) the recommendation to accredit the study programme, meaning that the study programme meets the requirements established by the legislation of the Republic of Estonia and other legislation. In the case of full accreditation, the experts still may give recommendations for improving the study programme.
2) the recommendation to conditionally accredit the study programme, meaning that the experts find it necessary to make certain changes in the study programme and in the organisation of studies. Conditional accreditation is a positive assessment of the study programme.
3) the recommendation not to accredit the study programme, meaning that in experts’ opinion there are substantial deficiencies in the study programme and in its implementation, and admission to that study programme shall be terminated and the study programme shall be closed.
EKKA Quality Assessment Council reviews the expert opinion and on the basis of that makes an accreditation decision. Database of accredited study programmes (in Estonian) includes both the expert reports and the decisions by the Quality Assessment Council. The expert reports reveal interesting information about study programmes.
It is worth taking a look at the assessment that the international expert committee has given to the study programme according to which you are studying or going to study.
